Where a handwashing station is not optional
Anywhere food is prepared, served or handled, a handwashing station is generally expected by the health department reviewing your event, and vendors will often ask before they commit. On job sites, handwashing is a straightforward sanitation expectation wherever crews eat on site, and it is the cheapest goodwill you can buy with a trade crew in the middle of a long build.
Standalone stations versus deluxe units
A deluxe flushing restroom has a sink inside it. A standalone station puts washing outside the restroom, which is better for throughput — people wash while someone else is using the restroom — and it is the only sensible option next to a food line, where the people washing are not the people who just used a restroom.
The usual planning pattern is one station per restroom bank, plus a dedicated station at each food service area.
